About Greensburg, IN - Happy to be your hometown Heating & Air Conditioning Contractor!
Greensburg, Indiana is located in Decatur County. With a population of just under 12,000, is convenient to both Indianapolis and Cincinnati. For that reason, is a good choice for commuters who would rather live outside of the urban environments where they work. However, the small town is still quite beautiful and interesting. All around town are stately brick buildings and beautiful landscapes which are blooming in the spring and snowy in the winter.
The city is known not just for its beautiful seasonal climate and small town air but also for its history. As with many towns in this part of Indiana, Greenburg is part of the land that was purchased in the New Purchase in 1819. 2 years later, Decatur County was established, and the next year, in 1822, Greensburg was named the county seat. The fact that the town is the county seat is part of why they have become well-known in the area. But, not for reasons that you may have guesses. That is because perhaps the most uncommon thing about Greensburg is the tree grove which has risen atop the courthouse tower. 110 feet above the lawn level of the courthouse, these trees have mysteriously grown all on their own, for over a century. Needless to say, they attract a great deal of attention and are the source of much local lore and interest.
In every season and in all weather, the town and its neighboring cities are alive with community spirit and a family friendly atmosphere. Each October, as the weather cools and the leaves begin to fall, nearby Greenfield holds the Riley Festival. The festival is celebrated to commemorate James Whitcomb Riley, a renowned poet born and raised in the town. The Fairland Fish Fry Festival is held annually in the tiny town of Fairland, which only has about 300 residents, holds a huge event with music, food and more. If you are looking for a great day trip for you and the family then you must visit the nearby town of Columbus. The balmy and sunny springs and summers create the perfect atmosphere for 5K’s, biking, and Spring Break Bounce House fun. In the winter, have a great time at the indoor gymnastics center or the ice arena.
